SINGAPORE : Singapore's first eco-friendly mall is celebrating the festive season with a Christmas tree that is green in more ways than one.

Officiating the light-up at City Square Mall on Friday were MediaCorp artistes Joanne Peh and Nathaniel Ho.

The Christmas tree is made of recyclable metal frames which can be re-used for up to 10 years.

It also uses LED lights which consume less energy, and the lights can be powered by people. The public can peddle the Christmas tree carriage by making a S$5 donation to the Singapore Environment Council.

As part of the festivities, two teams are also competing to set a record for the longest static cycling distance in 24 hours. - CNA/ms
