SINGAPORE: A woman suspected of throwing a bottle of chilli sauce from a bedroom in her Sengkang apartment on Sunday was hauled to court on Tuesday.
Thiang Ai Lian, 34, was charged with committing a rash act and endangering the personal safety of others.
Thiang, who did not enter a plea, told District Judge Lee Poh Choo she had been doing her laundry during the incident.
Thiang, who was not represented by a lawyer, said she wanted to look for one. The judge allowed her to make a phone call.
She was arrested on Sunday at Block 206D Compassvale after a man was hit on the head by a flowerpot that had been flung from a flat.
Hotel trainee manager Kasman Samat, 48, who was attending a wedding, was sent to Changi General Hospital and treated for fractures to his head and injuries to his face.
Several other guests had a close shave after a chilli bottle and another pot was flung.
Thiang had locked herself in and refused to open her door to police officers. Firemen used a power saw to cut the lock to her front door, while officers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team rappelled from the roof into a bedroom in her unit.
According to media reports, residents in the area had been complaining of killer litter for months. Half-eaten food and even sanitary pads had been thrown.
Six complaints have been reported to the Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council in the last three months.
Thiang, who lives on the 16th floor of the block, will be remanded at the Institute of Mental Health for assessment until her next court appearance on December 29.
If convicted, she faces a jail term of up to six months and/or a fine of up to S$2,500. - TODAY/vm
