SINGAPORE: A businessman, whose two Rottweiler dogs bit two people in Toh Tuck within five months, has been fined S$3,000.

Wu Wai Hong, 61, pleaded guilty to a charge of letting his dog cause injury to someone else, and another similar charge was taken into consideration during sentencing.

The court heard that on the evening of Oct 10 last year, the first victim, Seah Jeng Jye, was walking to his condominium when Wu's two dogs set upon him for no reason.

The attack only stopped after Mr Seah climbed onto a nearby ledge.

He suffered scratches on his left shin.

The court was told that Wu paid Mr Seah S$1,600 as compensation, while the second victim, Puvanesvary Alahakone, 49, was paid S$5,000.

She had been bitten on her left upper thigh by the dogs five months after Mr Seah's attack.

Wu had faced a fine of up to S$5,000 on each charge and could be ordered to pay compensation of up to S$2,000 to each injured party.

There have been at least 65 dog attacks this year compared to 50 in 2006. - TODAY/vm
