SINGAPORE: Singapore and Japan have strengthened their defence ties with the signing of a Memorandum of Defence Exchanges.

This took place during Deputy Prime Minister Teo Chee Hean's official visit to Japan.

Japan's Minister of Defence Toshimi Kitazawa was the signatory for his country.

Mindef said the memorandum formalises existing defence interactions between the two defence establishments.

It will also allow both countries to broaden their defence cooperation to include humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, protection against chemical, biological, radiological and explosive threats and peace support operations. - CNA/vm
