SINGAPORE : The local distributor of a European brand of baby strollers has started issuing safety kits to prevent children here from getting hurt.
This follows reports that several children overseas have had their fingers severed by the strollers' hinges.
Maclaren said it is not recalling its strollers in Singapore as they meet the safety standards here. But as a precaution, local distributor B.I.D Trading is issuing safety covers to pram owners for free.
So far, the company said it has contacted close to 1,000 customers, who are to collect the covers in the next two weeks. Four hundred and eighteen safety covers have already been given out to stroller owners.
The distributor added that it does not know of any accidents that have happened locally.
In the US, a million Maclaren strollers were recalled after reports that 12 children there had their fingers severed.
In Britain, a group of angry parents has banded together to take legal action against Maclaren. - CNA/ms
