SINGAPORE : Eight thousand fans headed to the Singapore Indoor Stadium for the Singapore Idol finals on Sunday.
There was a sea of adoring fans rooting for 22-year-old Sezairi Sezali, and yet another for 21-year-old Sylvia Ratonel.
One fan said: "Everyone thinks Sezairi will win because he is the only male competitor to have a definite chance, but the thing is, we want a change. For once, we want a female Singapore Idol. We want something different."
Crowds started forming hours before the show. A fan said: "I have been queuing up for this Singapore Idol from 12pm. If I go late, I can't go to the front."
But the preparations began long before the event.
One of Sylvia's fans said: "I spent two afternoons doing these posters."
A fan of Sezairi said: "I spent two days making this banner."
The competition kicked off with Sylvia belting out the classic hit "Mercy", while Sezairi teased the crowd with his rendition of Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity".
The two finalists also sang "Touched By An Angel", a song penned by Idol judge Ken Lim for this year's winner to include in his or her album. - CNA/ms
