SINGAPORE : National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan will visit Curitiba in Brazil from January 3 to 13.

A statement from the Ministry said Mr Mah will give an opening address at the second Curitiba Meeting on Cities and Biodiversity on January 6.

The meeting is a major milestone for cities as they prepare for the City Biodiversity Summit in Nagoya, Japan in October this year.

At the meeting, Mr Mah will speak about the development of the Singapore Index on Cities' Biodiversity and encourage cities to participate in its testing and refinement.

Singapore is leading the development of the Index - the first that will enable cities to monitor their biodiversity conservation efforts.

Mr Mah will also lead a delegation on a working trip to various cities in Brazil, including Brasilia, Manaus and Rio de Janeiro where he will meet with several mayors and governors.

This is to exchange learning points on sustainable development. - CNA/ms
