SINGAPORE : The first-ever Harmony Walk, organised by the North West CDC, on Sunday brought people of different races and religious backgrounds together through walking.
Some 500 residents of Bukit Panjang walked for about an hour at the Upper Seletar Reservoir.
They were then taken to the Kong Meng San Phor Kark See Monastery, Singapore's largest temple.
The CDC is introducing visits to such places in its brisk walking sessions this year.
It said such walks are part of efforts to build community resilience.
Dr Teo Ho Pin, mayor, North West District, said: "The whole idea is to bring everyone upstream, so that we enhance an understanding, we strengthen friendships, we strengthen bonds. So, that will, in a way, avoid conflicts and tensions in the community."
The North West CDC is already planning for its next Harmony Walk in April. Participants will walk about 3.3 kilometres from Yishun to visit the old kampong mosque in Sembawang. - CNA/ms
