SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday officially opened the new People's Association (PA) headquarters located just beside the Jalan Besar Stadium.

The PA celebrated the opening with dancing pyrotechnics in the night sky, and treated guests to a sneak peek of the Chingay Parade, which is to be held next month.

The celebration is the first in a series of events throughout the year to commemorate PA's 50th anniversary.

Mr Lee also opened the PA Heritage Gallery, which showcases the association's growth alongside Singapore's development.

Part of the new premises includes the former Victoria School building.

Tan Boon Huat, chief executive director of PA, said: "In the old premises at the old Kallang airport, we were distributed over a large number of buildings and this made it difficult for staff to communicate with one another.

"Now, we're all under one roof, it's just like in a housing board flat. We bump into one another along the hallways, corridors and so on."
