SINGAPORE : The Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon will undergo a revamp, with a new route and running categories. It has been renamed the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore.
When it debuts on December 5 this year, it will feature an 'Ekiden' relay, where teams of six runners complete the 42-kilometre distance, relay-style.
New categories will also be introduced to cater to runners of all ages. Organisers said more details will be released in the next few months.
What is known for now is that the Padang has been set as the finishing point, as with previous years.
Organisers hope to have 60,000 runners this year.
Teo Ser Luck, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Community Development, Youth and Sports, said: "We want to make sure that this marathon is for the people. It is to allow runners who aspire to do running to complete a certain distance, especially the marathon.
"So, it is a marathon that we continually want to inspire people to pick up running and create the sports culture, as well as to help them realise their dream of becoming a marathoner." - CNA/ms
