SINGAPORE: The Securities Investors Association of Singapore (SIAS) is joining hands with corporate finance firm NRA Capital to provide free research reports to the public.
The alliance will also give the public free access to investment seminars every quarter.
However, companies being studied will have to pay a fee under a scheme called the SIAS-NRA Corporate Initiated Research (SNCIR). The scheme, administered by SIAS, will produce analysis reports with investment calls on companies.
Since the soft launch in November last year, SNCIR has signed up 14 companies and expects about 20 more over the next few weeks.
The SNCIR scheme expects to research 80 to 100 companies within the next 12 months. Companies can have either one or both houses conduct the research.
If they choose just one, the Scheme Management Committee – made up of SIAS president and chief executive officer David Gerald, NRA Capital executive chairman Kevin Scully, and an independent person to be named later – will assign either SIAS Research or NRA Capital to research the company.
The committee's decision on house allocation is final.
The committee will also deal with disputes and complaints on the scheme. SIAS said the scheme will benefit both investors and companies.
"It will serve the needs of all companies which want to have independent research reports," said Gerald. "But mainly I think the companies which are not getting visibility attention and have a good investment story will take advantage of this scheme, especially companies in the small and medium categories."
On a combined basis, NRA Capital and SIAS Research have more than 10 analysts, capable of covering up to 150 companies.
