SINGAPORE: Singapore companies are making their moves on the fast growing mobile application market.
Nine of them are now in Barcelona to participate in the Mobile World Congress, where they'll be showcasing the latest applications developed for mobile phones under the Singapore pavilion.
These companies are hoping to repeat the success of last year's Singapore delegation, which scored S$9 million worth of projected sales as a result of their meetings with potential clients and partners.
One of the new applications that'll be on show at the Singapore pavilion this year is Mozat which enables integrated social networking, communication tools and multi-player gaming on a single application.
There'll also be a new mobile service creation platform which enables telcos to introduce many applications to their customers without incurring high operational and capital expenditure.
IDA's Senior Director of Industry Development, Andrew Khaw, said they believe Singapore's representation at the Congress will help companies expand their overseas reach, especially into sophisticated markets such as Europe.
According to the International Telecommunication Union, the leading UN agency for ICT issues, global mobile phone subscriptions were set to rise to 4.6 billion by the end of last year.
This is a jump of 15 per cent from about four billion at the end of 2008. - CNA/vm
