Singapore Budget 2010

SINGAPORE : Minister in the Prime Minister's Office Lim Hwee Hua has said this year's Budget is about building long-term sustainable growth for Singapore.

She was speaking at a public forum on the Budget organised by government feedback unit REACH on Tuesday evening.

Mrs Lim, who is also the Second Minister for Finance and Transport, said: "The whole focus on productivity, creating value, is really to ensure we are more resilient - for as long as a business, a society, is driven by value-creation and productivity increase, there will always be a place for it. So that is a way to stay resilient."

Mrs Lim was responding to a question on why the Budget did not address Singapore's vulnerability as an export-oriented economy.

She was also asked questions on support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and if productivity will improve if people like what they are doing.

The forum was attended by some 80 participants, including students and representatives from businesses and SMEs.

Feedback received will be forwarded to the relevant ministries. - CNA/ms
