SINGAPORE: A 56-year-old man was charged in the Subordinate Courts on Friday morning for allegedly stealing S$5,000 worth of casino chips from Resorts World Sentosa.
Ooi Boon Huat, who is unemployed, allegedly committed the offence at a casino table on Wednesday at about 12.10pm.
He allegedly took 10 pieces of cash chips, which carried a face value of 500, which belonged to Resorts World Casino. Mr Ooi, who was unrepresented by a lawyer on Friday morning, informed the Court he intends to claim trial to the theft charge.
The Prosecution informed the Court that the 56-year-old is also facing outstanding charges. These relate to drug-related offences and the possession of offensive weapons.
District Judge John Ng warned Mr Ooi to stay out of trouble between now and his pre-trial conference on March 30. But the accused insisted he did not commit the latest theft.
After the Judge repeated his warning to keep away from committing other offences, Mr Ooi insisted on his innocence and replied, "Just my luck."
If convicted for theft, Mr Ooi could be jailed up to three years and fined.
