SINGAPORE : The Singapore Government will embark on a major Arts and Culture Strategic Review for the country's cultural development.
Speaking in Parliament on Friday, Acting Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts, Lui Tuck Yew, said the aim is to get four in five Singaporeans to attend at least one arts and cultural event each year by 2025.
Another target is to get one in two Singaporeans to take up an arts activity in their personal time, or volunteer for the arts.
Mr Lui however said the focus will not be on infrastructural development. Instead, the lead will be taken from proposals outlined by the Economic Strategies Committee, to make Singapore a leading global city.
Mr Lui said: "For example, it will recommend the place-making efforts necessary to develop socially- and economically-vibrant cultural precincts.
"It will also identify concrete strategies to mould distinctive peaks of excellence that would differentiate and distinguish Singapore as a global city; and chart comprehensive talent development pathways that could nurture the creative capacity of people at all levels, from casual practitioners to star talents". - CNA/ms
