Police sweep of Orchard Road, Geylang & nightspot nabs 175

SINGAPORE: Police conducted a 12-hour sweep of Orchard Road, Geylang and St James Power Station on Friday, and arrested 175 people suspected of various crimes.

The multi-agency operation, which was led by the Criminal Investigation Department, involved about 400 officers.

Eighty-four of those arrested were men and 91 were women. They were arrested for offences related to gang activities, illegal employment, disorderly behaviour and sale of contraband cigarettes.

Fire safety violations were also detected.
