SINGAPORE : The IT Show, which ended on Sunday evening at Suntec, attracted a massive turnout while raking in record sales.

It chalked up over S$65 million in sales after four days - 10 per cent more than last year and the highest in its eight-year history.

The annual electronic fair also attracted its highest number of visitors - over 800,000.

The IT-savvy and tech-lovers had a field day hunting for bargains.

The IT Show 2010 kicks off a slew of technology fairs in Singapore held once a quarter, and organisers are upbeat it can only get bigger.

Mindy Tan, managing director, Newstead Technologies, said: "This year's IT Show, compared to last year, the growth is about 15, 20 per cent. And based on today's crowd, it will be better, it will be higher. We will pick up more sales from there."

The exhibition space is bigger by some 1,400 square metres, compared with last year.

Commenting on the hottest items, Melvin Koh, general manager, IT Show 2010, said: "Consumers these days, they need content anywhere they want to go, so portable devices such as smartphones and netbooks are pushing up the demand."

Some 830 exhibitors took part in this year's show, and organisers are already upbeat about next year's fair.

They expect consumer confidence to return as the economy continues to recover. - CNA/ms
