SINGAPORE : Men in Singapore are spending more online.
A survey by MasterCard Worldwide found that men out-shopped their female counterparts by over 20 per cent.
Male online shoppers spent an average of S$1,190 compared to S$967 spent by the typical female shopper over a three-month period.
However, women tend to buy more items.
A woman shopper bought an average of 4.9 items compared to the 4.3 items per male shopper.
Most who shopped online were happy with their experience.
Some 86 per cent of respondents who had made a purchase online in the last three months were satisfied with their experience.
Secure payment facilities, convenient payment methods, and price and value of the items purchased are the three most important factors influencing their online shopping experience.
The most common items purchased online remained the same as previous years - airline tickets, hotel accommodations, movie or concert tickets, ladies' clothing and accessories and books and art.
Singaporeans also tend to plan their online purchases in advance with 8 in 10 respondents doing research before making a purchase.
But 80 per cent are likely to be swayed into making an impulsive purchase when heavy discounts are offered or the products are unique.
This is the third survey on online shopping habits conducted by MasterCard. It covered 8,000 respondents across 14 markets. - CNA /ls
