SINGAPORE : Getting together to exchange strategies on risk assessment and horizon scanning (RAHS) - that is what some organisations have done to better prepare for an uncertain future.

They attended a two-day conference at Raffles City on Monday to use evidence-based methods to anticipate future trends and challenges.

These can be applied to a variety of areas, including security, business and energy issues.

The conference was officiated by Senior Minister and National Security Coordinating Minister S Jayakumar.

He said Singapore is using RAHS to assess the implications of issues such as other countries' debt problems on the country.

Singapore is also looking at the monopoly some countries have over scarce resources such as rare metals, used in the manufacture of precision weapons. - CNA /ls
