SINGAPORE : Polytechnics have showcased their top R&D projects at an annual student research programme.

A group of students from Republic Polytechnic are using an emerging technology, known as Brain Computer Interface (BCI), which provides direct communication between the human brain and a computer.

Their project is one of ten showcased at the annual Science & Engineering Efforts as part of the Polytechnic Student Research Programme.

Now into its 13th year, the programme aims to boost interest in Science and Engineering, and provides polytechnic students an opportunity to work on R&D projects.

Leading researchers from industry, universities, and research institutes act as mentors to the students.

Seto Lok Yin, Deputy Principal, Republic Polytechnic, said: "The faculties from the polytechnics and staff from research institutes also work closely together. So what we're doing is essentially combining upstream R&D and downstream R&D to create value for industry and society."
