SINGAPORE: Two students from Singapore topped the 2009 Angus Ross Prize, which is awarded for the best performance in the A-Level English examination by a non-UK candidate.

The winner is Lin Ruizi of Hwa Chong Institution, with Nicole Kang of Meridian Junior College as runner-up.

The prize has been won by a Singapore candidate every year since it was introduced in November 1987 except for 1999.

The prize is named after Dr Angus Ross in honour of his long association with Cambridge as Chairman of the A-Level English Examiners. Dr Ross retired from his involvement with Cambridge Assessment in January 1988.
