SINGAPORE : The High Court has reserved judgment in the appeal case involving members of the Singapore Democratic Party (SDP).
The group comprised SDP chairman Gandhi Ambalam, assistant secretary-general John Tan, central executive committee member Chee Siok Chin, SDP supporter Yap Keng Ho and human rights activist Chong Kai Xiong.
The group was arrested in 2007 for holding a procession without a permit.
The members were acquitted last October. But on Tuesday, the Public Prosecutor argued that the group walked the route - from the Speaker's Corner to the Queenstown Remand Prison - with the intention to commemorate a 2006 protest by SDP chief Chee Soon Juan.
In their defence, they said they were just walking and did not disturb the public.
Last year, District Judge John Ng had ruled that their walk did not amount to a procession. - CNA/ms
