SINGAPORE: Forget about laborious filing and manual updating, the Supreme Court of Singapore will now go paperless for its Practice Directions.
The Practice Directions is a set of documents which regulates court procedure and practice.
From now, members of the public will be able to access its electronic version online whenever it is needed.
They can even choose to download the entire Practice Directions and access it anywhere they like.
For the man on the street, it will also be easier to check on matters such as taking an absence from court witnessing.
Senior assistant registrar Yeong Zee Kin welcomed this move and said that "this is a step forward" which will bring ease and convenience to administrative matters.
With the Supreme Court taking the lead in going online, Mr Yeong also foresees others in the law fraternity doing so in the near future.
For the man on the street, it will also be easier to check on matters such as taking an absence from court witnessing.
Previously, updating the Practice Directions will be a lengthy process that sees the court issuing a notice to all law firms and thereafter sending out the amended document.
The law firms will then have to print out the amended document and file it accordingly.
However, as the Internet remains a popular option, it will result in many users accessing the version online that may not be up to date.
With this, the Supreme Court hence decided to launch the electronic format where changes can be done instantaneously.
On this new version, search capabilities are also available for easy navigation. - CNA/vm
