SINGAPORE: A man who had attempted to rob a 54-year-old woman in a lift last Monday was arrested just hours later.

The woman had entered the lift at Blk 838 Hougang Central together with an unknown man at about 2.25am.

The man assaulted her and tried to grab her gold chain and handbag.

The victim put up a struggle and shouted for help.

The suspect then fled without taking anything from the victim.

The victim sustained bruises on her eye and cheek.

The suspect, a 28-year-old Malaysian man, was arrested at Pasir Panjang Road at about 4.30pm that day.

He'll be charged in court on Wednesday for robbery with hurt.

If convicted, he could be jailed for up to 20 years and receive at least 12 strokes of the cane. - CNA/vm
