SINGAPORE : The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has arrested a suspected drug syndicate leader.

The 51-year-old Indian man was arrested in a raid on a flat in Ang Mo Kio on Tuesday evening.

He had some 220 grammes of 'Ice', 7.7 grammes of heroin, 30 Erimin-5 tablets worth S$78,630 in the flat. The drugs, along with 4 samurai swords, were seized.

His girlfriend and a male Indian associate were also arrested. A couple, who had left the unit, was arrested at the lift landing.

CNB has been watching the syndicate leader since February. Its investigations revealed that he obtained his supply of drugs from an overseas syndicate using multiple couriers to smuggle the drugs into Singapore.

CNB officers had arrested one of the couriers at the Woodlands Checkpoint last week. The 33-year-old male courier had about 250 grammes of 'Ice' found in his bag.

The syndicate leader and his 23-year-old Malay girlfriend will be investigated for drug trafficking offences.

Investigations on the rest are on-going. All are Singapore citizens.
