SINGAPORE : Police have arrested a 34-year-old Indian national in connection with the murder of a Filipino woman on Monday.
He will be charged in court with murder on Friday.
Days after 30-year-old Roselyn Reyes Pascua was found murdered, residents of Peony Mansion are still reeling from the incident.
The Filipina is believed to be a friend of the suspect, who was caught near Kitchener Road at about 4pm on Wednesday.
She was found lying face-up in a fifth floor unit, which is typically partitioned into eight small rooms.
Some residents were unnerved by the gruesome incident and are said to have packed up and left.
Mindy, a stallholder at Peony Mansion, said: "A lot of people moved out. But I do not know if it is (because) they do not feel comfortable. Of course, it has affected our business because they do not live here, so they do not come down to eat."
Several tenants said some of the partitioned rooms can be rented for about S$25 a night.
Responding to queries from MediaCorp, the Urban Redevelopment Authority said Peony Mansion can be converted into a hotel or boarding house if it has been given planning approval.
But it said it has not received any applications for the units to be converted to boarding house use recently.
It will investigate and take appropriate enforcement action, if necessary. - CNA/sc/ms
