SINGAPORE: The Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) has launched a free online marriage records search service to allow individuals to search for the marital status of a prospective spouse.
The service will also be available to other organisations who need to search for such information.
Anyone with a SingPass can conduct an online search. However, the number of free searches will be limited to two per person over a 12-month period.
MCYS said the cap was to prevent frivolous searches while providing greater convenience to marrying parties.
The free online search service is an enhancement of the existing service.
Previously, a person can make a search or inspection at the Register of Muslim marriages or Register of Civil marriages through the internet and will get a certified hardcopy of the search outcome at a fee of $35.
The current search service only provides the option of an online search only - without the certified hardcopy of the search outcome.
However, the public can opt for a paid search service providing both online and hardcopy information at $35.
The public can access the online service by logging onto Registry of Marriages website or The Registry of Muslim Marriages website. - CNA/de
