SINGAPORE: A garden nurtured to provide the ingredients for Peranakan cooking has cinched the Gardeners' Cup at this year's Singapore Garden Festival.
The winning team beat seven other teams with its fragrant garden that has plants commonly found in Peranakan dishes - from pandan to lime leaves.
The team comprises Assumption English School, Mayfair Park Estate Neighbourhood Committee and Moulmein Goldhill Neighbourhood Committee.
The Community in Bloom Awards - Gardeners' Cup - rewards Singapore's best community gardening groups and was introduced this year.
All the show gardens are on display at the garden festival.
Visitors will also be greeted by another visual spectacle - the Orchid Show.
It showcases over 800 varieties of orchids.
The show provides a sneak peek of what is to come at the 20th World Conference that will be held in November 2011 in Singapore.
The festival is part of the National Park Board's on-going effort to get more people inspired and involved in greening efforts in Singapore. - CNA/jm
