SINGAPORE: Singapore's Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan says the region's health ministers responded enthusiastically to his idea of a "policy fellowship" at the recent ASEAN plus Three Health Ministers' Meeting. The fellowship, he says, is an opportunity for the region's health officials in charge of policies to learn from each other's experience.
Writing in his blog, Mr Khaw said Laos is in the midst of formulating the national health insurance plan. And the country's Health Minister is especially interested in Singapore's 3Ms framework, as well as the experiences of Korea and China in this area.
Mr Khaw also revealed that China's health minister is keen to know more about Singapore's hospital restructuring efforts.
These exchanges are already happening at the bilateral level.
In recent years, he says, Singapore's Health Ministry has received attachments of health officials from Macau and the Philippines, to learn specific aspects of health policies of interest to them.
In turn, health officials from Singapore have gone to Hong Kong, for example.
Mr Khaw says he's looking to send someone to Shanghai for a short term attachment to learn about the city's electronic health records system which caters to about two million people.
Singapore is rolling out its own electronic health records system from next year.
