SINGAPORE: Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew has described the late Legal Service veteran S Tiwari as a skilful negotiator, who always knew what Singapore's needs and rights where, and made sure its interests were respected.

In a condolence letter to Mr Tiwari's wife, he added that Singapore has lost an outstanding legal public officer.

Mr Lee said for many years, when he was Prime Minister, he dealt directly with Mr Tiwari at many conferences.

Mr Tiwari was always well briefed and knew the law well.

Mr Tiwari died on Monday of a brain haemorrhage. - CNA/vm
