SINGAPORE : Making sure that the National Day Parade (NDP) and show ends promptly at 8.10pm, in time for the "One Voice 2010" segment – that’s one of the key challenges faced by the team at the Command and Control Centre overseeing this year's National Day celebrations.
Some 150,000 Singaporeans throughout the island are expected to unite their voices on August 9 to recite the Singapore Pledge and sing the National Anthem exactly at 8.10pm.
Controllers from various agencies in the command and control centre ensure the presence of a tight network of security and safety operations.
They monitor everything happening in and around the Padang.
"We are prepared for all spectrums. We work very closely with the police and if there are any threats that we identified, we will react accordingly. For example, (if there's) a bomb hoax, all the plans are there for reactions to such a situation," said Col Tan Kah Thiam, chairman of the Security and Contingency Committee.
Another command centre is responsible for the success of a seamless transition between segments of the show and parade.
It coordinates over 7,000 participants and also the celebrations which will take place in the heartlands.
