SINGAPORE: 82 percent of toys failed safety standards after comprehensive testing involving chemical, physical and labelling checks.

The checks were done by toy safety experts Insight Laboratories

Experts say toys have to pass all three tests - chemical, physical and labelling - to be deemed safe for public use.

Insight Laboratories says standards in Singapore follow those of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) - one of the largest body in the world governing consumer products.

It adds that labelling helps parents decide which toys are suitable for their children.

Joel Tan, general manager of Insight Laboratories, said: "Labelling is important because when parents or consumers buy the toys for the kids, labelling will show first of all the warning hazards, age-grading as well as manufacturer information."
