SINGAPORE : Travel agencies in Singapore have said cases such as the hijacking of a tour bus in Manila are rare.
But should something go wrong, assistance will be given to family members back home.
Travel agencies like CTC Holidays said local partners will also be contacted for regular updates.
Details of the tourists will be given to the Singapore Embassy, and family members will be informed.
A 24-hour hotline will also be set up.
Agencies have recommended travel insurance for peace of mind, as cases like hijackings and kidnappings are usually covered.
But this may be small comfort to tourists, and industry players expect visitors there to fall in the wake of the Manila incident.
Between January and March this year, about 28,000 Singaporeans visited Philippines, up 20 per cent from the same period last year.
