SINGAPORE: Singapore's Isabelle Li and Clarence Chew have won their opening match in the Mixed Team 1st stage Group event.

The Republic's duo beat the 'Intercontinental-2' team 2-1 earlier at the Indoor Stadium.

The Intercontinental side comprised Yana Noskova from Russia and her male partner Elmurod Holikov of Uzbekistan.

Singapore went behind when Isabelle lost 3-2 to Noskova in the Girls singles but Clarence kept the team's chances alive by defeating his Uzbek opponent 3-0 to send the bout into a rubber match.

With the series level at 1-1, both sets of players returned to compete in the mixed doubles, with Singapore coming off 3-1 winners in the final match.

Isabelle and Clarence will next feature against the 'Africa-1' side at 4.30pm in their 2nd group match. - CNA/fa
