SINGAPORE : Heart patients who need to monitor their condition using Electrocardiography or ECG can soon do away with bulky devices and messy wires.
There is now a compact, light and wireless device called the Spyder.
It is developed by a team of doctors, researchers and engineers from the National Heart Centre Singapore and Web Biotechnology and is Singapore's first wireless ECG monitoring system.
The device is attached to the patient's chest to track the heart rhythm and give doctors real-time readings that are critical for treatment.
All the 20 patients who took part in a two-week trial found the system easier to use, while nearly all felt comfortable with it.
One of them, Clara Wong, can even jog with the Spyder.
Ms Wong said: "The old device - you have to carry with all the wires, stick onto your body, and then when sometimes you want to pull your blouse down, you accidentally pull down the wires...
"But for the new one, it just sticks onto your chest, and it's so light you don't even feel it on your body."
