SINGAPORE : Singapore's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean said this year's National Day Parade theme "Live Our Dreams, Fly Our Flag" captured the collective hope of Singaporeans for a better future.

Mr Teo said it also captured their pride in the nation. He said this at a dinner to thank participants for a memorable National Day Parade (NDP) show.

He said the return of the parade to the Padang was timely, as many changes have taken place in the surrounding landscape in the past five years.

He added that the new and spectacular skyline across the Marina Reservoir and the Marine Bay Sands gave special meaning to the celebrations.

Mr Teo said it encapsulated not only the progress made over the years, but more importantly, the dare-to-dream and can-do spirit that Singaporeans possess.

"Besides celebrating our independence, NDP also seeks to make sure that the Singapore spirit remains strong and alive in us, so we can continue to tap on the spirit to keep on going forth to the future," he added.

Mr Teo said the success of the celebrations was made possible by the hard work and dedication of the 12,000 people from the Singapore Armed Forces, partner organisations and sponsors.

"The commitment and passion that you displayed, the hard work and long hours put in are symbolic of the spirit that we need for the future and these are truly appreciated," he said.
