SINGAPORE : Singapore's tourism industry reached a milestone last month when it crossed the one-million visitor mark for the first time in a single month.
The fruits are enjoyed by those in the service and retail industries.
Taxi drivers were kept busy, with more passengers to places of attraction, especially the two integrated resorts. And that means higher earnings - of about 10 per cent.
They also found it easier and faster to pick up passengers, as they are spread over four airport terminals.
On average, they spent 10 to 20 minutes waiting for passengers instead of about half an hour.
Retail outlets also enjoyed the visitor boom, especially those that are near tourist spots, such as Clarke Quay.
Electronic shop, Audiohouse, said business increased by about 20 per cent, with laptops and cameras raking in the highest sales. - CNA/ms
