SINGAPORE : An 18-year-old youth will be charged in court on Monday for loanshark harassment.

He was arrested by police officers on anti-crime rounds in Yishun Ring Road.

The suspect was at the 6th floor staircase landing of an HDB block where fresh loanshark-related graffiti was found.

An empty can of paint was recovered from the grass patch in front of the block.

First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment faces mandatory imprisonment of up to 5 years and receive up to 6 strokes of the cane.

They will also be fined between $5,000 and $50,000. - CNA /ls
