SINGAPORE: The sole proprietor of a transport company has been charged with 18 counts of graft involving S$17,500.
Thirty-nine-year-old Ng Chew Chuah, from Ming Chuan Transportation and Coach Service, allegedly gave the money to the then Welfare Programme Coordinator with the Society for the Physically Disabled, Eric Lau Yeow Hui.
Ng is believed to have handed the money over to Lau between October 2005 and March 2007 as a reward for helping him obtain a contract to provide transportation services to the Society.
Lau was convicted of the crime and was fined S$10,000 on August 2.
Lau, who gets around in a wheelchair, also had to pay a penalty of S$17,500.
Ng will be engaging a lawyer and his case will be mentioned again next Wednesday.
If convicted of graft, he could be jailed up to five years, fined a maximum of S$100,000 or both.
