SINGAPORE: Two former employees of Takenaka Corporation have been charged with corruption.
They allegedly committed the offences back in 2008 while they were working on the Changi Airport Terminal 1 upgrading project.
Takenaka was the main contractor for the project.
Mechanical and Electrical Coordinator, Beh Soo Hong, allegedly received S$18,000 from a director with Air System Technology, a company that installs air-conditioners.
It's believed Beh committed the offence sometime between June and September 2008 with an accomplice, Mohamad Najib Solihin.
Najib was a technical officer at the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
The other Takenaka employee to be charged was senior foreman, Heng Yan Kang.
He allegedly abetted Najib to corruptly accept a watch in July 2008, worth S$3,700 from a sub-contractor involved in the upgrading project.
Najib took the money and watch in exchange of overlooking possible faults committed by the two companies during the upgrading works.
He was convicted and sentenced to six months' jail in July.
Beh and Heng will be engaging lawyers.
Their cases will be mentioned again next Wednesday.
Those convicted of graft could be jailed up to five years, fined a maximum of S$100,000 or both.
