MUSCAT, Oman : Singapore has thanked Oman for its support in facilitating the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) task group deployed in the Gulf of Aden as part of international counter-piracy operations to call at its ports.
This was conveyed by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Teo Chee Hean during his visit to the Sultanate of Oman from September 1 to 2.
Singapore's Ministry of Defence (Mindef) said Mr Teo met Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers, Sayyid Fahd Mahmoud Al-Said, and Minister Responsible for Defence Affairs, Sayyid Badr Saud Al-Busaidi.
During the meetings, both sides reaffirmed the warm and friendly relations between Singapore and Oman.
Mr Teo and his delegation also joined local officials for an Iftar, which is the evening breaking of fast during Ramadan.
He also met the overseas Singaporean community in Muscat.
Mindef said Mr Teo's visit underscored the warm and friendly relations between Singapore and Oman, which enjoy cooperation in various sectors such as trade, infocomm technology, education and culture.
The armed forces of both countries also interact regularly at multi-lateral events, such as defence exhibitions.
