Arts education gets a boost with increased financial support

SINGAPORE: 189 students from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts have been given more than S$700,000 worth of scholarships and awards this year.

That is about 11 per cent of the student population which is 2 per cent more than in the last academic year.

Scholarships and awards worth S$576,000 were given out in 2009.

This year's scholars include Singaporeans and international students from Indonesia, Thailand, Ukraine, South Korea.

Ngee Ann Kongsi, the latest contributor, has pledged S$1.2 million, which will be used over three years.

Apart from Ngee Ann Kongsi, the scholarships are also funded by the Lee Foundation, Tan Chin Tuan Foundation, Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, M1 as well as individuals. - CNA/fa
