SINGAPORE: After reaching the semi-finals last season, the Singapore Slingers made a positive start in their build-up towards the upcoming 2010-2011 ASEAN Basketball League (ABL).

On Sunday, the Slingers beat Philippine Basketball Association's (PBA) side Rain or Shine 97-72 in a pre-season friendly at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, with forward Steven Khoo top scoring for the hosts with 23 points.

The team have two more pre-season friendlies, against PBA teams Meralco (Sep 13) and Air 21 Express (Sep 19), both at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

The Slingers were eliminated at the semi-finals last season by Indonesian side Satria Muda BritAma 2-1, and coincidentally will begin the new season against them at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Oct 3.

Their first away game is in Manila on Oct 9, when they face last season's champions Philippine Patriots at the Ynare Arena. -
