SINGAPORE: With Hari Raya Puasa coinciding with the end of the week-long school holidays, traffic volume at the two land checkpoints is expected to be heavy.

In a statement, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) said travellers should note that for departures, traffic build-up is expected to start from Thursday.

ICA said this would continue over the weekend at both Tuas and Woodlands checkpoints as security checks are enhanced.

For arrivals, traffic is expected to be particularly heavy on Sunday and travellers can expect delays.

To avoid the surge of people and vehicles seeking clearance at the land checkpoints, travellers are advised to adjust their travel plans and avoid the peak periods altogether.

ICA also encourages car-pooling and the use of public transport.

It added that Singaporeans who are issued with the BioPass or are registered with the National Registration Office should use the enhanced Immigration Automated Clearance System lanes at the bus halls for immigration clearance.

These lanes allow travellers to clear immigration through automated lanes within 12 seconds at no additional cost.

Travellers leaving Singapore by Tuas or Woodlands Checkpoints will be able to know in advance the traffic situation from LTA's Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System (EMAS) installed along the AYE and BKE respectively.
