SINGAPORE : A coroner's inquiry into the death of a gardener in a traffic accident has recorded an open verdict.
Mr Supari Bin Ahmad was squatting along the driveway of King Albert Park condominium, clearing dry leaves on April 26, when he was hit by a car driven by Mdm Goi Pei Ling.
He died two days later.
Security guard, Ananthan Suppaya, had told the police that Mdm Goi had driven past him at about five to 10 kilometres per hour when he heard a loud bang seconds later.
He did not see the collision but saw the left rear wheel of the car rolling over Mr Supari's legs. The car stopped immediately and Mdm Goi alighted to help Mr Supari.
There were no other witnesses, and the police were unable to determine how the collision occurred.
Mr Supari's wife told the media she was still trying to cope with his death. She said Mdm Goi's husband apologised to her outside the courtroom on Tuesday.
The police said they would consult the Attorney-General's Chambers on the next course of action.
