SINGAPORE : This year's Speak Good English Movement was officially launched on Tuesday.
And there's a new focus - to speak the language well in more environments.
It has been more than a decade since the movement began and organisers of the annual campaign believe that people are now more aware of the need to speak grammatically-correct English.
"The younger people are aware that they need good English to do well in their academic work as well," said Goh Eck Kheng, chairman of the Speak Good English Movement.
The year's movement has garnered its highest number of partners so far, including musicians, media companies and schools.
At the launch of the campaign, it was reminded that good use of the language starts at home and in pre-schools, with those speaking proper English serving as role models to those who don't.

"You know there are many people who champion speak Singlish, or let's create our own language - things that we can be proud of. But I appeal to you to think of our children, and understand that for the majority of us, we can only speak one way," said Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports.
To drive home the message, there will be stickers at some food outlets to encourage patrons to be grammatically correct when using the English language.
