SINGAPORE : A British teenager has been jailed nine months for breaking into seven parked vehicles, stealing the valuables found inside and trespassing into some of his victims' private property.
17-year-old Grant Callum Pearson who pleaded guilty to his crimes on August 20 admitted that he broke a window of a car parked near Block 57, Telok Blangah Heights on March 13.
An eye-witness who informed the police heard glass being smashed in the area at around 4.30am and spotted somebody trying to retrieve an item inside the car.
Officers arrived and found blood inside the vehicle.
Samples were taken and DNA extracted from the blood found at the crime scene was later found to match Pearson's.
He admitted that he had used his fist to punch the car window and injured his hand in the process.
The teenager broke into six other vehicles between May 1 and 9.
They were parked in places such as Pasir Panjang Road, East Coast Avenue and Tua Kong Walk in the Siglap area.
He made off with valuables worth some S$2,000 in all and they included items such as cash cards as well as sunglasses.
Pearson committed the offences with two alleged accomplices.
For stealing the valuables, for each charge, Pearson could have been jailed up to three years, fined or both.
And for criminal trespass, for each charge, he could have been jailed up to three months', fined a maximum of S$1,500 or both. - CNA /ls
