SINGAPORE : Heavy rainfall caused flooding in Singapore again on Wednesday.
This time, it hit the Central Business District (CBD) and Little India.
Boon Tat Road, near Shenton Way, was affected at around 10.30am. But the waters subsided within 15 minutes.
Low-lying areas in Little India were also affected by the heavy rain which started pouring around 11am. It subsided some two hours later.
The flood has affected some of the shopkeepers around the area.
"Previously, it didn't rain as much. But floods are getting worse lately," said one shopkeeper.
Water agency PUB said flood waters rose to around 300 millimetres along Desker and Veerasamy Road, and 150 millimetres on Rowell and Hindu Road.
Business was also affected at Syed Alwi Road, which runs parallel to Desker Road in the Little India district.
A restaurant owner said: "Each time a car passes by, the water will rush inside the shop. The lunch crowd was partially disrupted for a while. We have to put up with that... no choice."
A convenience store nearby resorted to using sandbags.
"If there were no sandbags, water will run into my shop," said the convenience store manager.
In a move to address concerns over flooding in Little India, PUB said works to improve the drainage system have started earlier this month.
The project is expected to end by February next year. - CNA /ls
