SINGAPORE: Jamiyah Singapore has called on all Muslims to uphold Singapore's harmony and unity among the different religions.

President of Jamiyah Abu Bakar Maidin said in a statement that it was unfortunate that from time to time, small groups of misguided people start acts of provocation.

He urged all Muslims to be careful not to fall into such traps and to live in peaceful ways according to the teachings of Islam.

He added that people here should continue to maintain the harmony and culture of peace and understanding in Singapore.

The statement follows growing condemnation over plans by a Florida pastor to burn copies of the Quran to mark the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.
