SINGAPORE: The main reasons for divorce cited by couples include unreasonable behaviour, financial problems and domestic violence.
Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports Halimah Yacob shared this in Parliament on Wednesday.
She also said there were 6,800 divorces in 2008 and about 7,000 in the subsequent two years.
She added that when marriages included young couples of the age of 20 and below, the chances of the marriage failing are higher.
"The larger issue is how do we help marriages to continue to be sustainable and remain strong," said Mdm Halimah.
"We have many programmes that we work together with partners, with the VWOs as well as with the National Family Council in order to help families to remain intact and to help marriages to remain strong," she added.
